Priorities

BPID focuses its efforts on opportunities for more effective implementation and improvement of the normative framework at national and European level regarding development cooperation, the UN Sustainable Development Goals and global education.

Global Education
Global education highlights the interconnectedness and interdependence of humanity. It aims to develop each citizen's sense of being part of a global community, not an isolated individual.

Development cooperation
Development cooperation is a key instrument for implementing the EU's foreign policy strategy aimed at developing countries for a better and more stable life. Its ultimate goal is the eradication of extreme poverty worldwide.

Sustainable Development Goals
The 2030 Agenda for the Sustainable Development of the World is the UN's programme of 17 goals and 169 sub-goals that 193 countries have agreed to implement to make the world a better place to live.

Development cooperation

BPID seeks to expand the space for citizen participation in Bulgarian development cooperation policy. As a network of active NGOs, BPID:

  • Signed a Cooperation Agreement with the MFA in 2015 related to data sharing and support;
  • Participates in the development of major development policy documents and key recommendations;
  • Implement the project "Civil Dialogue for Development" in connection with the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2017;
  • It has been running the Journalism for Development competition since 2018.

Sustainable Development Goals

The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a cross-cutting theme in all our initiatives. Over the years, the Platform has implemented a number of projects and events reaching hundreds of experts and thousands of citizens.
In partnership with 6 other European organisations, we are currently implementing the Sustainable Development Goals and Migration project. It aims to cover at least:

  • 26,000 professionals;
  • 980 journalists;
  • 2800 representatives of institutions;
  • 6.5 million Europeans.

Global Education

BPID is active at several levels in the field of global education:

  • Together with 14 other European and international organisations, it runs the Bridge 47 project, which is co-funded by the EU and is part of the European Commission's DEAR programme;
  • Carry out advocacy activities at European and national level in favour of Sub-objective 4.7 of the UN SDGs
  • It holds annual Global School and Global School in Action competitions in which hundreds of Bulgarian schools participate;
  • Increase public and journalistic awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and in particular the benefits of implementing global education in and beyond the classroom.
